Paperchase Alternatives
Share
I was a huge fan of Paperchase before it disappeared from our highstreets. I would spend hours in there. I could always find the nicest pens, a last minute greeting card or simply some paper.
They had art supplies, materials for different creative pursuits, wrapping paper, pencil cases, everything. From the colourful to the minimal. It has something for everyone.
It is hard to find a one-stop-shop that fufills all that Paperchase did. In any case, I thought it would be interesting to document some shops that offer a wide range of stationery and supplies that may fill the gap that was left.
1. MUJI
Muji has had a consistent and reliable stationery section in-store and online for a long time. You can find pens, notebooks, calendars and the like. Their notebooks and pens are great. You can always find refillable inks to their gens pens which are no doubt on of their bestsellers.
They often have affordable and quite beautiful wrapping paper too. Definitely for you if you like the uncluttered, minimal aesthetic.
2. WATERSTONES
Although they are a bookstore, larger branches of Waterstones often have a stationery and art section which is not bad at all. They now have two arts and crafts flagship stores in London with an even larger selection of paints, papers, paint brushes and the like. Hopefully this will be successful and spread elsewhere.
3. PRESENT AND CORRECT
Present and correct has a store in Bloomsbury in London. Their website is a thing of beauty though and I feel like the essence of the physical store is captured online which is no easy thing.
Here you will find beautifully designed paper goods and stationery with the touch of the vintage aesthetic about them.
4. COLOURS MAY VARY
A funky looking shop in Leeds Corn Exchange building, Colours May Vary appears to offer a colourful, vibrant and eclectic mix of books, magazines, greeting cards, wall art and more. All in a beautiful setting.
5. PAPIER
As far as I can see, Papier exists as a concession in larger stores rather than as a standalone, at least in the UK. They can be found in selected branches of John Lewis, Anthropologie, Waterstones and even in some independent store.
Their online store has a wide selection of stationery, greeting cards, journals and more. Its looks beautifully curated and gives the impression that you will definitely find something in the collection.
